The Lowell Leadership Institute offers a “Leadership for Learning / Learning for Leadership” conference and leadership symposium each summer.

The next Leadership Institute will take place in the Summer of 2012 in the Edna Valley of San Luis Obispo, CA. We will also schedule private institutes for your school or district.

This Institute program focuses on how to develop leadership and the ability to influence and enhance the learning environment, instructional design and instructional support services. The program explores how individuals can facilitate systemic transformation of teaching and learning in K-12 schools and districts.

The distinguishing feature of our program is its emphasis on becoming an initiator of academic change. Leadership in this context may not be attached to the position title, but rather by influence of the relationship with other professionals. It is leadership in the context of learning, rather than teaching, that makes this program unique.

Leadership is contextual. Critical success factors for leadership in education include understanding the style, culture, and context in which decisions are made, effective communication, relationship building, and organizational skills. One of the program’s goals is to make participants aware of the realities of leadership in their setting, whether site or district.

Collectively, participants will focus on the roles and challenges of transformational leadership and acquiring a skill set to employ on returning to their school and/or district. Participants will work in teams to address strategic issues associated with leadership, teaching, and learning and are expected to engage in all of the Institute’s day and evening sessions.
